CANON: Dangan Ronpa
NAME: Kyouko Kirigiri
AGE: Somewhere around 20
CANON: Dangan Ronpa
CANON HISTORY: Kirigiri wiki page
CANON PERSONALITY:
Kyouko is the Super High School Level Detective, so naturally she's very intelligent. As a detective, she's also very perceptive and often notices things before everyone else. Throughout the game, she guides everyone else, especially Naegi, through each case. Rather than simply tell everyone what has happened, which would make everything go by a lot faster than it would have, she wants everyone to figure out what happened on their own so that they can come to terms with it themselves. She tells Naegi after Maizono is killed that it's important he figures out what happens on his own so that he can come to terms with the truth.
Kyouko can also see the motives behind everyone's actions, and is able to read the emotions behind those actions. At the end of the first trial, she tells Naegi that the reason Maizono used the last of her energy to write Kuwata's name was so that Naegi wouldn't be framed for the murder, meaning that she had felt bad for her original plan and tried to save him in the end. She also warns Togami that refusing to understand the feelings of other people will come back to bite him later on, showing that she really does value the feelings of other people. Therefore, even though she hides her own emotions, she can still pick up on what other people may be feeling, and why they do certain things. The fact that she warns Togami that not taking others into consideration shows how much she values the feelings of others.
Also, due to the fact that she is a detective, she isn't afraid to do what she needs for the sake of figuring out the mysteries of the school, which includes going to places she shouldn’t be for the sake of investigating the school to uncover the mastermind's identity. Kyouko is able to break into the headmaster's office, and even gain access to the second floor of the dormitory before they're allowed to go to those areas. She doesn’t pay mind to the dangers of going to these areas, as long as she can get more clues as to who the mastermind is so that they can escape the school. This shows her determination to solve whatever mysteries come her way, no matter the possible danger.
Outside of her detective abilities, the most noticeable thing about Kyouko is how she always manages to remain calm and composed, no matter the situation. While a few of her classmates are prone to outbursts or freezing up, Kyouko remains calm, and is able to think and act logically. She also urges everyone else to keep calm, especially when they begin fighting, often telling them to calm down and examine the situation. For example, when Oogami is revealed as the mole and Togami and Asahina start fighting, she breaks it up, telling them to leave it alone because arguing is what the mastermind wants and that doing so won't get them anywhere. Keeping calm also allows her to think and react quickly, such as when Oowada attacks Monobear and it subsequently turns into a bomb, she immediately recognizes what's happening and tells him to toss it, saving his life.
This, however, doesn't mean she doesn't feel emotions just like anyone else. Kyouko is actually a very emotional person—she's just very good at hiding it. During one of her free time events, she tells Naegi that she might actually be the most afraid of them all, but that she hides her emotions so that others can’t take advantage of her weaknesses. She's so good at hiding how she feels that, even in an environment as stressful as the one they're all placed in, she only has a few moments of weakness where her emotions come through. At one point, Kyouko finds out that her father, the headmaster, is still at the school and she has a strong reaction to that information, surprising everyone else around her. She also gets very angry when she reveals information she found to Naegi, and he doesn't tell her that Oogami is the mole in return. Kyouko sees this as Naegi not trusting her as much as she trusts him, and she gets very angry at him, treating him callously and ignoring him for a few days. She does eventually realize what Naegi was trying to do, and forgives him, admitting that she was overreacting herself. So, despite the fact that she's good at hiding how she feels, there are times when she feels something so strongly that it slips through.
Kyouko is also very concerned with the way other people see her. When Kyouko was younger, her father left because he didn't want to be a detective, which is the pride of her family. Her father was the headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, and Kyouko wanted to confront him and tell him that she was cutting all ties with him, which was reason why she betrayed the secrecy of her family's occupation and went to Hope's Peak. The anger she feels towards him isn't because he left her, though, as Kyouko says herself she's happy he didn’t take her with him because she loves being a detective. Rather, she doesn't like the way other people look at her. She tells Naegi that others see her as “the girl that was thrown away by her father”, and she wants to cut off all relations with him so that people no longer see her as that girl. She cares the most about people seeing her as someone she's not, and hates that her past haunts her and warps other people's opinions of who she is.
Unfortunately, she never gets the closure she wanted with her father, which was her worst fear. She still feels anger over it, and after finding out that her father had a picture of her in his office, Kyouko asks Naegi to leave her alone so she can process her feelings. She says that the photo doesn't change the past, but it does obviously affect her deeply. While she doesn't express how finding that photo made her feel, the fact that her father died and she has no memory of confronting him, Kyouko only feels confused especially after reading her notebook, in which she didn't seem to be as angry towards her father. In the end, she can only be left to wonder what happened.
Throughout the game, Kyouko is a mystery to Naegi. She doesn't speak unless it's necessary, and as a result doesn't open up to him until much later. Even after she regains her memory, she's still very selective about the things she tells Naegi, and he says in the last free time event that he still doesn't understand her. Sometimes she also refuses to tell Naegi information he should know, instead using his lack of it to manipulate him and use his trust to test things out. Kyouko tells him to go to a secret room in the boy's restroom in order to test how important the information in there is to the mastermind, knowing full well that it could put Naegi in danger. Despite being somewhat manipulative, Kyouko is reliable. She saves Naegi several times, protecting him from Enoshima when she comes into his room in the middle of the night while he's sick to kill him. By figuring out Enoshima's plan to kill him beforehand, she is able to stop it. During one of the trials, Kyouko is framed for murder, but Naegi lies for her and ends up almost being executed, ending up under the trash room as a result. Because Naegi covered for Kyouko, she comes back to save him, finding a way to get into the room Naegi fell into. It takes Kyouko and Naegi becoming closer before she starts to become someone who has back, even though he trusts her from the beginning. As the game goes on, she no longer hides things from him, and starts telling him what she’s found out because she trusts him.
In the beginning, Kyouko is very aloof, and even detached. As the game goes on, she opens up to Naegi a little more and even comes to trust him. She does change throughout the game to become a slightly more open person, and learns that depending on other people isn't as bad as it seems. At the end, she even says that she's not afraid of what's outside of the school walls as long as she's with someone like Naegi. She was unwilling to put full trust in someone else at the start, but she learns that she can actually put faith in her friends, and Naegi was the one to teach her that.
As she opens up to him Kyouko even jokes around with Naegi, especially during her free time events, showing that despite her aloofness she still joke around. When Naegi calls her cute to get a reaction out of her, she sees through his trick and pretends to be flustered, and then offended at him tricking her. When Naegi himself gets flustered she laughs, saying she wouldn't be tricked by those sort of lines.

AU NAME: Kyouko Kirigiri
AU AGE: 19
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Her hair and eyes are black rather than light purple. She also does not wear gloves, as she has no scars on her hands.
AU HISTORY:
•She's from a family of detectives, who used to be really well-known before they suddenly disappeared from the public eye. Her parents were a well-known detective duo, and were always asked to work on international cases that gained them a lot of attention. Whenever they solved a case, they were all over the press. The Kirigiri family name was famous among detective and law enforcement for most of Kyouko's childhood, and while she didn't like the attention, she did enjoy helping her parents out with cases by looking over files and finding details they might have missed.
•She was born in Japan, but most of her childhood was spent travelling as her parents took on a lot of cases, especially in Europe, and she moved around quite a few times when she was younger. Although she had the option to stay back in Japan with her grandfather, Kyouko wanted to be with her parents instead.
•Right before Kyouko was about to enter high school, her mother mysteriously died while working on a case. Just after, her father disappeared as well, and hasn't been found. Naturally, rumors took off about her father being responsible for her mother's death and Kyouko ended up moving back to Japan to live with her grandfather and keep a low profile, where she attended high school. After hearing about Recolle University's forensics program, she decided to move to Recolle to study. With the help of a good forensics program, Kyouko hopes that she'll eventually become a detective and that she might one day find out what really happened to her parents.
•Kyouko also works on cold cases she comes across, or on cases that people hire her for. She's still working on getting the hang of detective work, but being with her parents while they worked on cases when she was younger has given her a head start.
•She enjoys playing the piano, as it was something her mother taught her when she was younger.
•She spends a lot of the time in the library doing research on either her own family or for cases she's taken on. Kyouko also spends quite a bit of time studying, since she takes her schoolwork seriously and is determined to at least be near the top of her class.
•Kyouko also likes to go shopping, and has a weakness for cute things.
•She currently lives with her best friend Levy (player approved).
AU PERSONALITY:
While Kyouko doesn't completely keep herself from showing her own emotions, she still tends to come across as a little cold. This is due to the fact that she moved around so much when she was younger, and as a result, didn't get much of a chance to make friends. It also means she has a tendency to be quiet and fairly reserved. While she does have friends she considers to be dear to her (especially Levy), she still finds herself unsure of how to go about making friends. Staying in one school throughout high school did help her become more sociable, but she still can't help being reserved. Moving around so much when she was young had more of an affect than she would like to admit, so she tries to play off her shyness as being aloof.
Even though Kyouko has close friends, she still refuses to open up completely when it comes to her past. It's something she doesn't like talking about, especially since she's afraid her father might have had something to do with her mother's death, despite the fact that she's tried her hardest not to listen to the rumors being spread at the time. Since she's protective over this part of her past, she tends to avoid answering questions about why she wants to become a detective unless someone already knows of her family history. While she wants to both find out what happened to her parents and restore the Kirigiri name, she finds it difficult to open up about it, despite her resolve being strong. This only furthers the illusion she's created of being aloof, because she's quiet about her ambitions despite the fact that she works extremely hard towards her goal of becoming a successful detective.
Underneath her shyness, though, Kyouko is still an average college student. She especially enjoys going shopping, something she gained an interest when she traveled with her parents. Taking time to go through new stores and seeing what they might have helps her take her mind off things for just a little while, and is something she enjoys doing with others.
She also works hard in all of her classes, spending a lot of time on campus and in libraries. While it does tie into her aspirations, she enjoys learning. After all, her studies were the one constant while she was younger.
Kyouko also has some training in solving cases, as she would accompany her parents when they would allow her. Still, she doesn't have the skills of the Super High School Level Detective and isn't a master at solving cases. She's still developing the skills and tools to become a decent detective, and while the training she had when she was young certainly helps, it doesn't make her a professional. While she is also very perceptive for someone her age because of her background, she doesn't notice the subtle clues that someone with the talent of the best detective in the world would. Her background only sets her apart to an extent.

SAMPLE
That afternoon, Kyouko found herself back in the public library. Other than her own apartment and the university, Kyouko spent most of her time at the library. By now it had become a comfortable place for her, and despite its size, she had the layout of the building memorized. Most of the time, she perused the shelves for books that might help her with a cold case—mostly long, boring books on public records.
Today, though, she was here for class. Although Kyouko had already chosen her major, she was taking all of the required classes that she could so that she could focus on her main interests in the next two years. Unfortunately, this meant that she had to enroll in a history class this semester, and had the professor required his students go above and beyond. Namely, going to the library and getting sources there instead of a research database. It was a pain, but Kyouko spent so much time in the library already that it wasn’t anything she really minded doing. History was something she always enjoyed, as it never changed and was always easy for her to pick back up when she would transfer to a different school. Aside from that, knowing how history shapes the present was useful in solving cases as well. Not specifically, but the principle itself helped.
Kyouko ran her fingers along the row of books, looking at the author names and trying to find the right one. A burst of applause interrupted her thoughts, though, and she peeked out of the row to see a group of people clapping as someone approached a small podium. It must be a local author talking about their book, part of the many events the library always held. Those events were something Kyouko never joined in on, but she always wanted to. Clubs were never something she felt like she should join, though, not when she was always moving, and that sentiment traveled with her throughout high school and now in college. She smiled to herself, self-deprecatingly. Even now, she couldn’t move on from her past.
Letting out a sigh, Kyouko tried to diffuse those thoughts as she resumed searching for the book she needed for class.
